GEF Seniors’ Housing
GEF Seniors' Housing is a not-for-profit registered charity. We are the largest providers of subsidized seniors' housing in Alberta. Our mission is to provide friendly, affordable, secure housing and services for seniors in the Edmonton community. With the help of our employees, volunteers, and donors we make a difference in the lives of more than 3,500 seniors, giving them and their families peace of mind.
The Great knitting Giveaway
Every year, members of knitting clubs based in GEF Seniors Housing buildings donate thousands of pieces of winter outdoor wear to local charities at an event that’s become known as the Great Knitting Giveaway. All the yarn used was donated to the knitting clubs throughout the year at the more than 40 buildings that GEF Seniors Housing currently owns or manages.
This year the residents made an impressive 7,000 individual items that will help keep people in the community warm this winter season.

Produced by Guerrilla Motion Pictures, this piece features interviews with residents of several GEF buildings and their family members. It was shown in May 2019 at the GEF 60 Year Building for Life Breakfast Fundraiser where over $100,000 was raised.
