The holiday season is here at last and with that comes Christmas carols, Shopping Mall Santa, and my favorite, Christmas movies! We all have our favorites – whether it’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas or, Elf – these movies hold a special meaning to us. That being said, here are my Top 5 Christmas movies:
5. Bad Santa
It’s crude, it’s obscene, it’s everything I love in a comedy, yet still packs the emotion of a heart-filled Christmas story. Most Christmas movies cater to families but this one is almost anti-family in a sense – part of the reason why I love it so much. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it but be warned: this isn’t a Christmas movie for those that fancy themselves a modern day Saint Nick!
And after I just spent a paragraph talking about the anti-family Christmas movie, here is It’s A Wonderful Life, the staple of all family Christmas movies and all family Christmas movies to come. But, you know what? I’m a sucker for this one. I love Jimmy Stewart and I love Frank Capra. I think it’s a perfect film and makes you feel the warmth that you should around the holidays.
3. Die Hard
Yes, I consider Die Hard a Christmas movie! One of the best actually! I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my Christmas than with a warm cup of tea, some sugar cookies, and John McClane kicking Hans Gruber’s ass up and down the Nakatomi Plaza. Twinkie anyone?
For Christmas this year I want a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot range model air rifle!
You’ll shoot your eye out, Mr. Kueber!
I love this movie so much. I think I love it even more after being able to visit the official “Christmas Story House” in Cleveland, Ohio this past summer. What a cool experience! Not only did I learn the history of the film but got to see the house where the entire movie took place. I even got to hide underneath the sink like Randy when he delivered the classic line, “Daddy’s gonna kill Ralphie”. If you haven’t seen this one, stop what you are doing and go see it now! Now!!!
Come on, what else did you expect? These are my two favorite Christmas movies. I consider them to be one because they are just too damn good to try and separate one from the other. Kevin McCallister, Buzz, Fuller, Harry and Marv, Little Moe with the Gimpy Leg, a young Rob Schneider, creepy Tim Curry, Old Man Marley, the list goes on and on. There was a time (not saying how old I was) when I watched Home Alone 28 times in the month of December. No word of a lie. That’s how addicted I am to this movie. I remember when I was a kid, I used to hope for Joe Pesci to break into my house so I could set up traps for him. And then I saw Goodfellas and yeah…I didn’t hope for that anymore. Anyways…Merry Christmas ya’ filthy animals!
